ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH

After the defeat of the German division, and upon meeting the objective requirements, the engineering firm ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was initially founded with two colleagues. From day one, the software program EASE, which was at that time still DOS-based, was available. As a result, the feasibility of room- and electro-acoustic designs could be efficiently verified. Large projects during the early 90s, such as the planning of a new sound reinforcement system for the German Opera (Deutsche Oper) in Berlin, supported the start-up phase.

A similar experience was gathered during the reconstruction of the Plenary Assembly of the Parliament in Ankara, where in 1996, for the first time, a fingerprint system for the identification of the Members of Parliament was introduced, which is still in operation in its original form till today. The number of awarded contracts in the country and abroad was then increasing as well as the number of employees. In 2010, the activities profile of the sole-property company ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was transferred to ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH. Major tasks are still ahead of our team, such as the extensive Al Maktoum International Airport, which is currently under construction and is intended in its first construction phase to serve around 120 million passengers per year.

Synchron Stage Vienna

Vienna - Austria 2012 - 2014

Room and structure acoustics measurements
Schematic concept planning

Project data:

A leading developer of orchestral sample libraries and music production software, the VSL Synchron Stage enlisted WSDG, to upgrade its historical (circa 1940) scoring stage into a cutting-edge recording facility. The reconfigured complex now provides enhanced acoustics and cutting edge technology for recording film music and, the full spectrum of orchestral and choral works. The 2,000 sq. m. / 21,000 sq. ft.), VSL complex represents the worlds only scoring stage capable of merging proprietary software innovations with traditional technologies and procedures

The Vienna Symphonic Library, a leading developer of orchestral sample libraries and music production software, turns a historical scoring stage into a unique recording facility that offers superior acoustics and state-of-the-art studio technology. With its historical building and legendary recordings, Synchron Stage Vienna is equipped with the latest high-end analog and digital technology. Control Room A features a Neumann KH310 Midfield system for Auro-3D immersive audio

Initiated in 2012, the scope of the two-year+ assignment required WSDG’s wide-ranging facility planning services. Beginning with documentation of the overall state of the property, we also covered room and structural acoustical measurements and schematic conceptual planning. The scope of work comprised: The VSL Synchron Stage A Control Room and large Recording Hall; VSL Synchron Stage B CR and Live Room; and the Studio C Edit Room, and Preproduction Suite. WSDG also performed the electroacoustical system calibration for the audio monitoring system. The VSL Synchron State is distinguished by uniquely future-proof technology, making it a superb recording facility for film music and other orchestral and choral works. A large scale Dante Network with input and output interface connection points at all relevant locations, serves as the facility’s network backbone.

The large VSL Synchron Stage had been previously adapted to accommodate TV/Theatre rather than orchestra recording. Remodeling that space was a primary concern. WSDG engaged original design elements to achieve a world-class acoustical environment by adding specially tuned Microperforated Fabric at the sidewalls, and also built in a Concert Hall grade floor. The B Stage and Control Room will be completed in early 2016.
