ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH

After the defeat of the German division, and upon meeting the objective requirements, the engineering firm ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was initially founded with two colleagues. From day one, the software program EASE, which was at that time still DOS-based, was available. As a result, the feasibility of room- and electro-acoustic designs could be efficiently verified. Large projects during the early 90s, such as the planning of a new sound reinforcement system for the German Opera (Deutsche Oper) in Berlin, supported the start-up phase.

A similar experience was gathered during the reconstruction of the Plenary Assembly of the Parliament in Ankara, where in 1996, for the first time, a fingerprint system for the identification of the Members of Parliament was introduced, which is still in operation in its original form till today. The number of awarded contracts in the country and abroad was then increasing as well as the number of employees. In 2010, the activities profile of the sole-property company ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was transferred to ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH. Major tasks are still ahead of our team, such as the extensive Al Maktoum International Airport, which is currently under construction and is intended in its first construction phase to serve around 120 million passengers per year.

ADA corporate development

After studying technical acoustics at the Dresden University of Technology with subsequent doctorate in 1975 and a further study at the Lomonossow University in Moscow, Dr. Ahnert worked since 1975 in the Institute for Cultural Buildings in East Berlin.

This institute was responsible for the overall planning of the special systems of all theaters, concert halls and other cultural buildings in the GDR as well as for selected projects abroad. During this time, several patents have been filed under his co-operation, among others a patent for the method of delta stereophony.

In 1990, he founded the office ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert, initially with only two employees in the old location of the former institute. In January 1993, the office moved to a new location in the Berlin Innovation and Start-Up Center (BIG) in the former industrial area of AEG in the district of Wedding.

In 1992, Dr. Ahnert completed his „Habilitation“ at the TU Dresden on "manipulation of sound fields". In 1993, the University of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg, now Film University Babelsberg appointed him as a honorary professor.

In the year 2000, the foundation of a software company SDA Software Design Ahnert GmbH took place together with Stefan Feistel.

In 2007, AFMG Ahnert Feistel Media Group Technologies GmbH was established to sell software products of SDA and to provide training for their understanding.

Since 2002, the new headquarter of the companies is based in Berlin-Pankow in the Arkonastrasse.

In March 2010, all employees switched to the new planning and consulting office ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH. The former office ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert still manages the contracts signed under its name and will also be available for selected consulting services in the future.

In the Summer of 2017, the WSDG office based in the USA acquired major shares of ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH. Dr. Ahnert and Dirk Noy from the WSDG Basel office in Switzerland continue to serve as managing directors of the office.

Dr. Ahnert is co-author of the textbook "Beschallungstechnik - Grundlagen und Praxis" S. Hirzel Verlag Stuttgart, published 1993. New editions and translations were published in 2000 in English, 2002 in Chinese and 2003 in Russian. An updated version is in preparation in Arabic. In book chapters of further 14 books, Dr. Ahnert participated as an author.

Early 1980s, the development of the room and electroacoustic simulation program EASE began, which is used today in over 90 countries worldwide. Since the beginning of November 2004 the measurement software EASERA, and since 2007 the measurement software SysTune are developed by the sister company SDA.
