ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH

After the defeat of the German division, and upon meeting the objective requirements, the engineering firm ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was initially founded with two colleagues. From day one, the software program EASE, which was at that time still DOS-based, was available. As a result, the feasibility of room- and electro-acoustic designs could be efficiently verified. Large projects during the early 90s, such as the planning of a new sound reinforcement system for the German Opera (Deutsche Oper) in Berlin, supported the start-up phase.

A similar experience was gathered during the reconstruction of the Plenary Assembly of the Parliament in Ankara, where in 1996, for the first time, a fingerprint system for the identification of the Members of Parliament was introduced, which is still in operation in its original form till today. The number of awarded contracts in the country and abroad was then increasing as well as the number of employees. In 2010, the activities profile of the sole-property company ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was transferred to ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH. Major tasks are still ahead of our team, such as the extensive Al Maktoum International Airport, which is currently under construction and is intended in its first construction phase to serve around 120 million passengers per year.

General reconstruction
New construction of a concert hall and the cabaret "Herkuleskeule", installation of the state library

Owner: City of Dresden
Client: Kommunale Immobilien Dresden GmbH & Co. KG
Construction costs: (KGR 200-600)    approx. € 90 million

ADA Scope of services:
Acoustic consultant to the client according to HOAI 1-9, building, room and electroacoustics

Project description:

In the 60s of the last century, the Palace of Culture was built as a multi-purpose building with a hall and a cabaret.
The hall with its almost 2000 seats served many purposes. However, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, which also played in the hall, complained for years about the acoustics of the multipurpose hall, which are not adequate for concerts.
Finally, an architectural competition was launched in 2008 with the aim of turning the multipurpose hall into a concert hall.
The exterior of the building was listed under monument protection in the same year, but not the interior of the building.

In 2009, the Berlin architecture firm gmp general planning company won the competition of 26 bidders, where ADA office supported the winning design in terms of acoustics.
The winning design showed a hall in typical vineyard shape. Our office was too small to work as a responsible acoustician in the following phases of design and thus the internationally active office Peutz (of Dr. Vercammen and Margriet Lautenbach MA) was selected for the detailed acoustic design work.
The Munich office Daberto & Kollegen was engaged for stage technology, stage lighting and electroacoustic planning.
ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert worked for seven years as an acoustic consultant to the client and participated in all important design steps of the two offices Peutz and Daberto. Close contact and professional cooperation always existed with the gmp office in Berlin.
