For the first time in Berlin's history, the main railway station, the largest and most modern hub railway station in Europe, combines the former West-East route on the viaduct arches of the Berlin city railway with a north-south connection through a 3.4 kilometers long and 25 meters deep tunnel under the Tiergarten in the direction of government district to Potsdamer Platz.
At various stages of this major construction project, ADA was appointed to use simulation calculations to investigate sound system concepts for the various areas of the station building and to evaluate the voice transmission quality according to the rules of DB AG.
While in the underground station a decentralized system with ceiling loudspeakers integrated into the light strips was conventionally adopted, special loudspeakers adjustable through their signal processing was employed in the aboveground station part in the east-west direction, which is featuring a dominating steel and glass impressive architecture, to cover the traffic areas and the platforms.
