ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH

After the defeat of the German division, and upon meeting the objective requirements, the engineering firm ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was initially founded with two colleagues. From day one, the software program EASE, which was at that time still DOS-based, was available. As a result, the feasibility of room- and electro-acoustic designs could be efficiently verified. Large projects during the early 90s, such as the planning of a new sound reinforcement system for the German Opera (Deutsche Oper) in Berlin, supported the start-up phase.

A similar experience was gathered during the reconstruction of the Plenary Assembly of the Parliament in Ankara, where in 1996, for the first time, a fingerprint system for the identification of the Members of Parliament was introduced, which is still in operation in its original form till today. The number of awarded contracts in the country and abroad was then increasing as well as the number of employees. In 2010, the activities profile of the sole-property company ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was transferred to ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH. Major tasks are still ahead of our team, such as the extensive Al Maktoum International Airport, which is currently under construction and is intended in its first construction phase to serve around 120 million passengers per year.

ANOHA - the children's world of the jewish museum

Berlin, Germany 2016-

Room and building acoustics planning of the exhibition space

Stiftung Jüdisches Museum, Lindenstraße 9-14, D- 10969 Berlin

ADA scope of services:
Room and building acoustics and media systems: from project phase to construction supervision

Project data:

In a former wholesale flower market - diagonally across from the Jewish Museum designed by Daniel Libeskind - a new place for children of kindergarten and primary school age to discover, explore and play has been created under the aegis of the architecture and exhibition office Olson Kundig from Seattle.

The focus of the children's museum is the story of Noah's Ark, an imposing ship with which Noah saved his family and a pair of all animal species from the flood. In the heart of the children's world ANOHA - a huge round wooden ark there are more than 150 animals, made from recycled materials, whose well-being the children can take care of.

The challenge in terms of room acoustics was to achieve a comfortable and pleasant basic acoustic atmosphere in the open hall with a reverberation time of several seconds. The required absorption is achieved by activating the wooden Ark structure – visible within the ceiling’s wood slat pattern for example. In addition, the surrounding building is acoustically treated with absorbers.
