ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH

After the defeat of the German division, and upon meeting the objective requirements, the engineering firm ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was initially founded with two colleagues. From day one, the software program EASE, which was at that time still DOS-based, was available. As a result, the feasibility of room- and electro-acoustic designs could be efficiently verified. Large projects during the early 90s, such as the planning of a new sound reinforcement system for the German Opera (Deutsche Oper) in Berlin, supported the start-up phase.

A similar experience was gathered during the reconstruction of the Plenary Assembly of the Parliament in Ankara, where in 1996, for the first time, a fingerprint system for the identification of the Members of Parliament was introduced, which is still in operation in its original form till today. The number of awarded contracts in the country and abroad was then increasing as well as the number of employees. In 2010, the activities profile of the sole-property company ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was transferred to ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH. Major tasks are still ahead of our team, such as the extensive Al Maktoum International Airport, which is currently under construction and is intended in its first construction phase to serve around 120 million passengers per year.

Planning of Sound-reinforcement Systems

Sound-reinforcement systems are all facilities allowing speech, music and other signals to be electrically amplified and transmitted to the listener via loudspeakers. Apart from the facilities known from venues like theaters and congress centers, these include also paging and alarm systems on railway stations and airports as well as in sports facilities, hospitals and other large buildings.

Design and dimensioning of such a system is governed, among other things, by the following objectives:

  • high speech intelligibility
  • sufficiently high and uniformly distributed sound pressure level
  • transmission frequency range adequate for the intended purpose
  • fulfillment of the user, artistic an architectural requirements regarding arrangement of the sound sources and their integration into the parts of the structure.

Depending on the type of buildings and systems, the following standards and guidelines are applied:

  • DIN VDE 0828 „Electro-acoustical Alarm Systems“
  • EN 60849
  • FIFA Guideline
  • THX Guideline for Cinemas
  • Ordinance on Venues
  • Hospital Standard
  • Railway Regulations

Functional aspects of any sound reinforcement system can be contemplated only with due consideration of the enclosing room. This is why a close cooperation between the room-acoustical planning expert and the architect is required.
Upon request, our office is also in the field of room acoustics in a position to render planning services, execute measurements and prepare expert’s reports.
